A Half-Assed Update

- I'm not in CA.  I'm in D.C.
- I don't have a full-time job yet.
- But I have a part-time gig at Political Media, Inc. Some of their clients/issues are conservative (eww)... but I'm not selling my soul, I swear!  I just need some $$!
- Kevin and I have found an awesome apartment (actually a 1-br condo) in Alexandria, VA. Check it out: www.exchangeatvandorn.com, "Roosevelt" floor plan.  The place is ours starting Sept. 2nd!
- I will be home in PV from Sept. 10-15.
- I will be traveling in China from Sept. 16 to Oct. 2.  First, a trip with family and family friends along the ancient Silk Road in Northwestern China (through Xinjiang, the province that borders Central Asia, Pakistan, and India). Then to my beloved Beijing for a few days.
- I will officially move to D.C. after I get back from China.

And finally... a cool survey that I got from Emily's blog.  Some of the song titles are quite appropriate... or at least, appropriately funny.   Some... meh.  And this lineup is exactly how the songs came out on my iTunes -- no skipping whatsoever.

Directions:
1. Put your music player on shuffle.
2. Press forward for each question.
3. Use the song title as the answer to the question.  No cheating! (Press shuffle a few times to get rid of most of the songs that had no name and are just identified by their track numbers.)

How am I feeling today?
"Rainbow Wings" - Eagle Eye Cherry, Desireless

Will I get far in life?
"Message in A Bottle" - The Police, Every Breath You Take: The Classics

How do my friends see me?
"Trasher" - N*E*R*D, Fly Or Die

What's my theme song?
"Peace On Earth" - U2, All That You Can't Leave Behind

What is the story of my life?
"Breakout" - N*E*R*D, Fly Or Die

(I can't believe N*E*R*D came up again; they're ok, but not one of my faves.)

How can I get ahead in life?
"Hold Me Now" - Thompson Twins, The Wedding Singer Soundtrack

What is my best feature?
"Out Tonight" - Mimi from RENT, RENT Original Broadway Cast Recording

How is tomorrow going to be?
"Well, Well" - Nelly Furtado, Whoa, Nelly!

What is in store for this weekend?
"One Step Closer" - Linkin Park, Hybrid Theory

How does my crush feel about me?
"Too Late" - Talib Kweli, Reflection Eternal

What is my life like at the moment?
"Right For Me" - Justin Timberlake, Justified

What song describes my secrets?
"The Sounds of Silence" - Simon & Garfunkel, Simon & Garfunkel Greatest Hits

What song will they play at my funeral?
"Taking Over Me" - Evanescence, Fallen

How does the world see me?
"Song For My Father" - Horace Silver, The Blue Box Blue Note's Best (Disc 4)

What best describes my personality?
"Requiem" - Mozart
(The next song was "One Angry Dwarf and 200 Solemn Faces" by Ben Folds Five.... hahaha, that would have been great.)

I am home in California.  Nothing more for now.  I am exhausted.

Craziness.

I came back on Friday from my awesome 6-day visit to Bangalore, India, during which I stayed with my friend and fellow Moho, Piya.  Sight-seeing, palace hopping, shopping (lots of it!), talking about my fave topic, laughing until the wee hours of the morning, doing impressions of Dr. Evil, learning a FOB-y Indian accent, and saying the words "jiggy," "shiz," "bling," and "LOVE IT" more times than should be legally allowed.  Great times.

And now... in 4 days... I will leave the country and the city that has been my home for the past 10 months.  So much to do.  No time to process.  It's kinda starting to hit me, but it hasn't reached full-blast yet.  Mixed feelings is all I can say for now.

Oh, Phil Collins

My across-the-hall neighbors are BLASTING a Phil Collins live album.  I can hear it clearly from my room as I type this.  I think they must have just bought a new stereo and/or speaker system.  Never before in my life have I heard Phil Collins being played so loudly before.

Oh dear god.  The Tarzan song just came on.  You know, the one that goes, "You'll be in my heart... you'll be in my heart...."

Don't get me wrong...... Phil Collins is great (he's a drummer, so he's automatically pretty cool).  It's just that when I think of blasting music and booming subwoofer at midnight on a Friday night... Phil Collins doesn't usually come to mind.

But what do I know?  Maybe I'm the one who's totally missing out on some off-tha-hook Phil Collins party scene.  Maybe all tha clubs be blastin and all tha ladies'n'pimps be bouncin to
"... so take a look at me NOWWWWWWWW...."  Maybe I jus dun kno nuthin bout tha illest shit these dayz.  Maybe.

Oh well, the Phil-Collins-at-one-million-decibels has stopped now.  Werd to yo' motha.  I'm out.
